Some 18.55 lakh taxpayers submit returns till Nov 30

Around 18.55 lakh Taxpayer’s Identification Number (TIN) holders submitted their return till November 30 in this fiscal 2021-22.
Around Taka 2,456 crore has been collected from the returns, reports BSS.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for submitting income tax returns by a month to 31 December considering problems faced by many taxpayers because of Covid-19.
According to the NBR, some 17.48 lakh individual taxpayers submitted their returns till November 30 at the last fiscal.
Talking to BSS, a senior official of the NBR said the number of return submissions is increasing as return submission has been made compulsory for all TIN holders.
As per responses of the taxpayers, he hoped that return submission will be stood at around 30 lakh till December 31.
Meanwhile, the National Board of Revenue has extended the time for submitting income tax returns by a month to Dec 31.
Citizens will have to pay fines to submit tax returns after the new deadline, NBR spokesman Syed A Mu’men said on Monday, reports bdnews24.com
The previous deadline for tax filings was set to end on Nov 30 but the authorities decided to push it forward with “the convenience of taxpayers” in mind, the NBR spokesman said.
The NBR has not organised tax fairs this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The authorities are providing extensive services to the taxpayers throughout November at zonal offices.
Usually, the taxpayers can access all types of services at a single place when an income tax fair is held. The NBR had organised month-long income tax fairs for nine years to 2019. It cancelled the fairs in 2020 due to the pandemic.
Earlier, The National Income Tax Day 2021 was observed on Tuesday. This year, the theme for the day was “Implementation of Mujib Year’s pledge by ensuring spontaneous participation of taxpayers in paying taxes”.
On this occasion, NBR organised a seminar on “Role of Income Tax in Implementation of Vision and Building of Future Bangladesh” in the meeting hall of NBR Building at Segunbagicha in the capital.
