Solar power plant gains popularity in Panchagarh

Solar power plant is gaining popularity in five upazilas of the district as it gives uninterrupted power supply costing less.
About five thousand families of rural areas under Boda, Debiganj, Tetulia, Atwary and Sadar upazilas of the district have been brought under solar power network.
Grameen Shakti, a non-government institution, is expanding power network in the remote areas of the district. People of the areas are now watching television programmes, running fan, light, charging mobile phone set, laptop and operating computers with solar electricity side by side doing their normal work or job.
Manager of the institution Sarwar Hossain said that a family can get 85 megawatt solar panel spending Taka 18 to 25 thousands.
More people are taking interest in solar plants as it gives uninterrupted power supply, said some consumers.
The farmers are also using solar power for irrigation purpose. Five hundred farmers of the area have cultivated Boro on two thousand bighas of land under 16 solar irrigation pumps last season, DAE sources said.
