‘Social movement for ending repression against women stressed’

Speakers at a human chain programme here have demanded exemplary punishments to the repressors of women and children and asked for launching social movement to end to all sorts of such repression and violence.
Bangladesh Narimukti Kendra (BNK) organised the programme in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in the city on Wednesday afternoon demanding punishments to the women and children repressors and to create social awareness to resist repression on women.
Presided over by district unit President of BNK Arsheda Khanom Lizu, women leaders and activists, female students, teachers, professionals, socio-cultural, political and human rights activists, lawyers, journalists and local elite participated in the programme.
Members of the district unit of BNK Alo Begum, Fahmida Akhter Priyanka, district unit Coordinator of the Convention Preparation Committee of Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) Comrade Anwar Hossain Bablu and BSD leader Polash Kanti Nag, women leaders and activists, addressed.
Strongly protesting the incidents of repressions, torture and violence against women and children, the speakers stressed for involving the civil society members, public representatives, politicians, community leaders, students, and teachers, socio-cultural and professional activists for ending such repressions.
Narrating various types of repressions, they said women are being subjected to violence, torture and abuse in every family, working places, roads, transports and everywhere due to lack of adequate social awareness and cooperative attitudes.
Terming these social curses as the main barriers for flourishing women leadership and empowerment, they suggested for incorporation of the concept of gender equality in the curriculums to help students developing hatred against these evils.
They demanded for banning publication and broadcasting of advertisements representing women as products, pornography, and all unethical activities.
Later, the participants vowed for launching vigorous social movement to create public awareness for eradicating all types of repression, harassment and violence against women to establish equal women rights in the society.
