In two separate incidents in broad daylight, snatchers took away Taka 12 lakh from Hosni Dalan and Tanti Bazar areas in the old part of the city on Thursday. They also injured three persons during the operations. In both cases, victims came under attack when they were going to their businesses after withdrawing cash from the relevant banks, police sources said.Police suspect organized criminals in the guises of clients took position in and around the banks and followed the victims just after they had started for their destination carrying the cash. The injured persons Sumon Das, 35, Rajib Hossain, 24 and Shafiqul Islam laundered money between 2001 and 2006″, he said.As per the ACC findings, it would take legal action against them soon, he said. He, however, did not disclose the identity of the five persons saying it could not received bullet and knife injuries. They have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital [DMCH] in critical condition.Rajib and Sumon are employees of a jewelry shop at Baitul Mukarram Market while Shafiqul works at AZ Enterprise in the city’s Neemtoli area. Police said Rajib and Sumon carrying Tk 10 lakh in a handbag, went to a gold shop at Tanti Bazar at about 1:30 pm. A gang of five intercepted them on way to the gold shop at Prasonna Poddar Lane soon after they got down from their rickshaw. Both of them received serious injuries when muggers shot them at the back and took away the handbag full of money.Panic spread in the area as the snatchers exploded cocktails. They fled away towards the court building area along with the booty firing blank shots.Local people rescued the seriously injured persons and sent them to DMCH. When contacted, Md Firoz Hossain, Inspector [Investigation], Kotowali police station, said they could not recover the looted money and none was arrested in connection with the snatching.In another incident, a gang of snatchers took away Tk 2 lakh from Shafiqul Islam near Hosni Dalan at about 12:30 pm. Shafiqul received severe cut injuries when muggers stabbed him in the abdomen and chest. He came under the attack when returning from a bank at Elephant Road after withdrawing Tk 2 lakh on behalf of his owner. Officer-in Charge of Chakbazar police station said they were conducting operation to recover the looted money and catch the snatchers.
