SME products fair begins in Bandarban

A seven-day long regional ‘ Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Fair-2020’ began here on Friday for bringing the local small and medium entrepreneurs under a single roof.
Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Minister Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing inaugurated the fair this morning by releasing balloons and pigeons at the deputy commissioner’s office premises.
In his speech, Minister said SMEs and Women of Chambers should come forward to encourage the small entrepreneurs and skilled entrepreneurs should be made through training to make them more efficient. He also said, if skilled entrepreneurs can be created, then the Bandarban tourism city will be more highlighted across the country by selling their products.
Bandarban Deputy Commissioner Md Daudul Islam presided over the meeting.
Among others, Police Super Jerin Akhter, SME Foundation Manager Rahul Barua, Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Council member Kajol Kanri Dash, officials of Private and Public organizations and students were present at the fair.
The fair will continue till January 22.
DOE official injured in fire: Azadur Rahman Mallik, Director of the Department of Environment (DoE), suffered burn injuries after a fire broke out at his residence in Panchlaish in the port city on Friday morning.
Jashim Uddin, Deputy Assistant Director of Chattogram Fire Service, said the fire broke out when he was lighting a gas oven around 9 am. Fire service officials said a leakage in the gas pipeline might have sparked the fire. Mallik was rescued and taken to a private hospital.
