Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday said, there is no long tailback on Highways, but vehicles are moving slowly.
The cattle-laden vehicles are causing traffic congestions on highways, not the dilapidated road conditions, he said while visiting a mobile court drive at Mohakhali inter-district bus terminal in the capital on Saturday afternoon.
“Neither dilapidated
road conditions nor lack of coordination at Road Transport Department are responsible for tailbacks. There’s no long tailback on highways, but vehicles are moving slowly, no one can deny that,” he said.
The minister also said the transport companies charging homebound passengers extra fares will be punished.
“We are taking action after getting complaints about additional fare. Some people involved in the practice have already been detained,” he said.
When asked about schedule collapse of trains and allegations of charging additional fare, Obaidul Quader said he had heard that some vehicles were running late.
