Staff Reporter :
The movement of northern bound transportation has become slow on Dhaka-Tangail highway, as a huge number of vehicles have made more pressure on the highway.
Additional Police Super of Tangail Masudur Rahman said, in last 24 hours more than 19,787 vehicles moved through this highway. Of them, he said, 10,254 vehicles departed from Dhaka for northern districts, while the rest left northern region for capital Dhaka.
The police super, however, said there was no gridlock on the highway, but the vehicles movement was slow.
Due to the first holiday from Friday, the holidaymakers started to leave for their village homes from Thursday to celebrate Eid with their near and dear ones. As a result, the movement of huge vehicles on the highway became slow.
As a consequence, the traffic jam was created from
Elenga bus stand to Bangabanddu Bridge. Later, the traffic became tolerable and the vehicles started slow movement.
Bangabandhu East Thana Officer-in-Charge Md Mosharraf Hossain said, as the vehicles could not move smoothly, there was a 15-kilometre long queue from Alenga to Bangabandhu Bridge. However, the gridlock gradually started to become easier.
