bdnews24.com :Bangladesh’s police chief should step down for failing to catch the killers of Avijit Roy even after a year has passed, Professor Ajoy Roy, the victim’s father, has said.He said Detective Branch officials claimed to have identified three of the killers, who were ‘under surveillance’. “I asked the investigating officer what surveillance meant here. Why were they being watched and not arrested? They couldn’t answer me.”  “And now they are saying his killers have fled the country,” he said, referring to a statement by Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia. “So what sort of shoddy surveillance are you running here?” The retired physics professor from Dhaka University was at the Bangla Academy to take part in a book-launching ceremony for Dr Md Anwar Hossain’s book – ‘Ananta Amra Chup Thakbona, the title of which roughly translates to – ‘Ananta, we will not be quiet’.  Avijit Roy was hacked to death by assailants who attacked him and his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya on the Dhaka University campus while the couple were returning home from the Amar Ekushey Book Fair on Feb 26, last year. They had arrived in Dhaka from the US a few days earlier. Roy, a bio-engineer who founded the blog – Mukto-mona, had angered fundamentalists and received repeated death threats for writing against religious fanaticism.
