A leader of the ruling party’s front organisation has been abducted from in front of his office in Dhaka, his family claims.
Swechhasebak League Dhaka South unit’s Social Affairs Secretary KM Arman has been missing since Wednesday night.
Swechhasebak League is the volunteers’ front of the ruling Awami League.
“Locals informed us that a few men whisked him away in a white microbus (van) from the Dainik Bangla intersection,” Arman’s wife Nigar Sultana told bdnews24.com Thursday morning.
She said her husband was at his office in Motijheel until 8pm.
“I was unable to reach him on his mobile phone after 8pm on Wednesday. I then called his office and came to know that he went to the Dainik Bangla intersection after receiving a phone call.”
Sultana had filed a complaint with the local police last night. “We are investigating the matter,” said Motijheel police OC Farman Ali.
He said that phone-tracking systems showed Arman’s mobile at Kakrail at night, but they could not identify the exact location. The Awami League (AL) leader’s wife said that Arman had received a mobile phone message three months ago threatening him with murder.
