Sk Jamal reach semifinal eliminating Brothers 5-4 in tie breaker

Holders Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club luckily managed a semifinal berth in the Federation Cup Football Tournament eliminating Brothers Union Club by 5-4 goals in the sudden death session of the penalty shootout at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Tuesday.
The hard-fought first quarterfinal match between the two teams was locked in 2-2 goals in the stipulated time with Haitian forward Lionel Preux and Gambian Landing Darboe scoring for Sheikh Jamal while Kawser Ali and Nigerian defender Adams Jankasa for Brothers Union.
In the penalty shootout, Lionel Priux, Nasir Chowdhury, Raihan Hasan, Landing Darboe, Wedson Anselme scored for Jamal while Yeasin Khan missed the another chance.
On the other hand, Augustin Walson, Adam Jankasa, Germain Kenfack, Shafiqul Islam scored for Brothers Union while Imtiaz Sultan Zitu and Habib Mia spoiled the other opportunities.
In the scheduled time, Haitian forward Lionel Preux put Sheikh Jamal DC ahead in the 45th minute by a placing shot when a fierce grounder of Gambian Landing Darboe came his way slipping from Brothers goalie Biplob Battacharjee (1-0).
Six minutes after the resumption, winger Kawser Ali Rabbi equalised for margin for Brothers Union by chipped the ball over the onrushing Jamal goalie Himel after receiving a long ball from Haitian forward Augustin Walson (1-1).
Brothers took lead in the 56th minute as their Nigerian defender Adams Jankasa headed home on re-bounder in the far post net (2-1).
Landing Darboe brought Jamal back into the match in the 83rd minute by placed the ball into the net without doing any mistake utilising a square pass from Rubel Mia (2-2).
Earlier, Brothers Union had a chance to move ahead when winger Kawser Ali Rabbi curved a right footer from 25 yards and the ball missed the Jamal’s crosspiece by few inches.
In the 31st minute, Jamal’s Haitian forward Wedson Anselme’s strong header on a cross of midfielder Monaem Khan Raju rebounded off the Brothers bar.
Wedson squandered a chance to equalis the score for Jamal but his header on a cross of Landing from the right was saved by Brothers goalie Biplob diving to the right.
Brothers midfielder Rajon Mia wasted an easy chance to advance the lead as he shot wide having open net after receiving a cross off Kawser Ali Rabbi from the left.
Sheikh Jamal will face the winner of the 3rd quarterfinal between Sheikh Russel and Chittagong Abahani in the semifinal on Sunday.
Group D champions Dhaka Mohammedan SC will face Group A runners-up Soccer Club, Feni in the 2nd quarterfinal tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5:15 pm at the same venue.
In the other quarterfinals, Group B champions Sheikh Russel KC will encounter Group C runners-up Chittagong Abahani Limited on Thursday while Group C champions Dhaka Abahani Limited to play Group B runners-up Muktijoddha SKC on Friday, both at 5:15 pm at the same venue.
