Sixth population and housing census from June 15-21

The government is going to conduct the sixth population and housing census 2022 from June 15 to end on June 21.
The census reference point has been fixed on 12 hours of June 14, Statistics and Informatics Division under the Ministry of Planning said on Sunday.
The population census would be conducted through the use of digital system and Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) will conduct the census.
The BBS has prepared a web based Integrated Census Management System to conduct the census. Besides, they have also prepared a control map with the help of the Geographical Information System for this purpose to make the census easier.
About 3.70 lakh enumerators, 64,000 supervisors and more than 4,500
BBS employees are ready to conduct the census activity.
In addition to a large workforce, there will be about 900 employees of other departments to act as the zonal officers to carry out this mammoth task.
In order to create awareness among people how to provide correct information, the government has taken a number of initiatives including motivational songs, staging drams, documentary drama and census count down.
The information about the census will be disseminated in the mass media as well.
The district information offices will make arrangements for dissemination of information, distribution of campaign materials and use of miking at the time of census.
Country’s first population and housing census was conducted in 1974 under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Subsequently, the second, third, fourth and fifth censuses were carried out in 1981, 1991, 2001 and 2011.
According to Bangladesh Economic Review 2021, currently the estimated population is 16.8 crore.
In October 2019, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved Tk 1,761 crore project for the population and housing census.
The BBS wanted to conduct the census in 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
