Six ex-Krishi Bank officials sent to jail

A Dhaka court yesterday sent six former officers of Bangladesh Krishi Bank to jail after they surrendered in a case filed for misappropriating Tk 152 crore.
Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the Senior Special Judge’s Court passed the order after they appeared before it seeking bail in the case around 1:30pm.
The officers are: Jubayer Manjur, former chief regional manager (Dhaka) of Bangladesh Krishi Bank, ABM Ataur Rahman, former deputy manager and branch manager of Banani Corporate Branch, AKM Mosharraf Hossain, former deputy manager of Banani Corporate Branch, Monowara Begum, former assistant general manager of Banani Corporate Branch,Md Sanaullah, former senior chief officer of Banani Corporate Branch and Engineer Shahidul Islam, former senior chief officer (divisional office) of Bangladesh Krishi Bank.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director Julfikar Ali filed the case on August 18 last year with Banani Police Station accusing the six and Firoz Group proprietor Wahidur Rahman for misappropriating Tk 152 crore through forged documents. Wahidur remains fugitive since then. Earlier, on September 12 last year, the six former officials surrendered before the High Court seeking bail in the case.
After hearing their the High Court granted a five-week ad-interim bail to them. It also directed them to surrender before the lower court concerned within the five weeks.
As per the order, they surrendered before the lower court concerned on October 11 last year. On that day, the lower court fixed a hearing date for yesterday. (February 20). After the hearing on Wednesday, the lower court sent them to the jail.
