Chittagong district police arrested a leader of Jammat-e-Islami, from his Sitakunda sadar residence yesterday afternoon for involvement in the act of sabotage and vandalism in different areas of Sitakunda upazila of the district. The arrested Jammat leader is Shafiqul Maola, 52, Ameer of Sitakunda upazila Jammat Islami, of the district.
Mohammad Naimul Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) of Chittagong district police said Shafiqul Maola, Ameer of much trouble-torn area of Sitakunda upazila Jammat Islami, was arrested from his Sitakunda sadar area at 1-30 pm today in connection with vandalizing vehicles after a series of clashes between Jamaat-Shibir men with law enforcers in the city and district last year.
A total of 40 cases including 21 in Sitakunda thana are pending against him with different police stations in the city and district, he added.
