Selim Reza with Tanvir Ahammed, Sirajganj :
Nomination brawl is on track owning to the forthcoming parliamentary election in the constituency of Sirajganj-6 that consists of Shazadpu upazila. The skirmish for nomination between two heavyweight candidates, present MP Hasibur Rhaman Shawpon and Chayon Islam, Presidium Member of Jubo League has become evidently visible. The BNP has been dynamic in the election field to take advantages of the two-way rivalry of ruling party. Using this opportunities, BNP wants to recuperate this seat at any cost.
Apart from this, the potential candidates of different parties are meeting with the voters making mass-communication. The roads and walls of the area are covered with greetings posters and banners.
In this seat, Shawpon-Chayon’s variance is permanent from very beginning. In the election of 1996, father of Chayon Islam, Mojharul Islam and former VC of Rajshahi University lost to the then BNP candidate Hasibur Rahman. Later, Sawpan joined AL and became Deputy Industries Minister. Then he became a candidate in the sub-election from this seat but Chayon became MP as an independent candidate by losing him. The beginning of the conflict between the two heavyweights of AL is mainly from here. In 2008 election, Chayon elected as MP and Shawpon as upazila chairman. They both worked together for five years for the development of this constituency. The distance between them grew when in 2014’s election, when Shawpan got nomination from the party and elected as MP without any contest. Chayon has turned himself back and tries to get nomination disjointedly. Besides, them, Sheikh Abdul Hamid, Vice-chairman of Milk Vita, Sazzad Haider, Director , Bangladesh Tourism Board are also the candidates of AL .
On the other hand, Torikul Islam, President , Shazadpur Municipal BNP, Kamruddin Ehiya kahn, former MP and executive member of central committee of BNP, Shafikul Islam, former social Welfare secretary of DAKSHU and Golam Sarower, Member of District BNP are the candidates desiring for nomination from BNP.
Present MP Hasibur Rahman said , in my own effort PM Sheikh Hasina came to Shazadpur and laid the foundation stone of Rabindro University. There is a whole touch of development everywhere. The party is now much organised then before. We are making mass communication door to door to ensure triumph in the next election. In the approaching parliamentary elections, he demands himself AL’s worthy candidate and said that there is no alternative to me here. Yet, I will accept the decision about the nomination of the Prime Minister.
Chayon Islam, another aspirant candidate said , I have been working hard to make certain the success of the party making meeting-assembly and courtyard meetings. I was with the leaders and workers including grassroots and also will be in future.
Sazzad Haideer, who owns clean image says, since, my father was the UP chairman of this area for 5 terms, he has wide popularity here. He says he has started the public relation with the green signal of the high command. He will save this area from the aggression of Jamuna River, develop weaving cottage industry and make comprehensive development of agriculture and dairy industries if he gets nomination. He pledged to build a society by eliminating militancy, drugs and terrorism. Abdul Hamid, also hoping for nomination says that I have a special role to establish the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court and Joint Sessions Judges Court, construction of hospital including several development works at Shazadpur.
BNP had a strong position in this seat also. Ahiya Khan Mojlish won the election of 1991.In 2001; BNP’s M.A Motin won the election. In fact, BNP is trying to renovate the seat through the next eletion. Tarikul Islam of BNP also said I’m working inexorably with the grassroots to take the party in superior point. There are ten political cases against me, including the burning of the train of Sirajganj, but I have not left back. His devotee says that if party gives him nomination, he will win by a huge vote as he is a compassionate leader.
Goalm Sorowor also seeking for party’s empathy and said , I have been serving with grassroots leaders and workers for the betterment of party .Many people who have not been seen in the decisive moment of party but they are now active and making showoff for nomination. If I nominated and win, I will give Shazadpur a shape of model upazila. Kamruddin Ahiya, former MP said with optimism, when I was MP, I made extensive improvement here and people remember those till now. I have a huge vote bank at Shazadpur.
