`Single line railway sections to be double line`

Railways Minister M Mazibul Hoque said the present government has undertaken a plan to upgrade single line railway sections into double line.
“Bangladesh Railway has already started activities for turning important corridors of the railway into double line primarily aimed at upgrading railway sections into double line,” he said, this on Monday while replying to a starred question from opposition bench member M Nurul Islam Omar of Bogra-6.
The minister said the government has improved Tongi-Bhairabbazar (64-km) and Laksam-Chinkiastana (61-km) railway line into double line as part of the ongoing double line activities of the country’s most important Dhaka-Chittagong Railway Corridor.
He informed the House that the double line upgradation work of Akhaura-Laksam (72-km) would be implemented in 2020, while construction work of the second Bhairab and second Titas bridges would be completed soon and after implementation of the double line improvement project, the Dhaka-Chittagong Railway Corridor would be turned into double line.
Besides, the government has started construction projects of 3rd and 4th dual gauge line on Dhaka-Tongi section and dual gauge double on Tongi-Joydebpur section, Mazibul Hoque said.
