Xinhua, Singapore :
Singapore’s non-oil domestic exports (NODX), a key gauge of the export performance of the small and highly open economy, rose 2.2 percent year-on-year in April, trade promotion agency International Enterprise (IE) Singapore said Sunday.
The increase was following a 18.5-percent spike in March due to an expansion in non-electronic NODX which outweighed the decline in electronic NODX, the agency said.
On yearly basis, the electronic NODX contracted by 3.8 percent in April, in contrast to a 10.4-percent expansion in the previous month. The contraction in electronic domestic exports was largely due to parts of ICs, parts of PCs and consumer electronics.
The NODX to all of the top 10 markets, except the United States, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Japan, increased in April. The top contributors to the NODX growth were South Korea and the European Union.
The NODX to China dropped 5.1 percent in April on year, down from the previous month’s 1.1 percent increase.
On the other hand, exports to South Korea expanded by 30.6 percent in April, following the previous month’s growth of 20.5 percent, while NODX to the EU rose by 11.4 percent.
On a month-on-month seasonally adjusted basis, the NODX contracted by 8.7 percent in April, compared to the previous month ‘s 23.1 percent expansion, mainly due to the decrease in both electronic and non-electronic NODX.
