Singapore Under-23 team forced favorite Bahrain Under-23 side to a goalless draw in a Group B match of the six-nation Bangabandhu Gold Cup International Football Tournament at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Sunday.
After the day’s result, Thailand under-23 team dominates Group B securing full three points from one match while Bahrain and Singapore follow the leaders with one point each, playing one and two matches respectively.
In their second match, Bahrain will face Thailand on Monday at 5 pm at the same venue to decide the Group B position.
In the day’s match, Bahrain medio Rahama Marhoon managed a good chance in the 17th minute, but his attempt went wide near the side post despite dodging past the Singapore defense.
In the 20th minute, Bahrain forward Ateeq Mubarak spoiled another opportunity as his left footed shot sailed over the cross piece.
In the 55th minute, Singapore forward Taufik Bin Suparna made good header, off a corner of Iqram Rafiq, but Bahrain goalkeeper Mahbob Yahya saved the ball.
In the 60th minute, Singapore had another chance to take the lead, but a header by defender Shahrin Bin Saberin off a corner kick of Iqram Rafiq from the right flank was saved by Bahrain goalkeeper Mahbob Yahya diving to his right.
Bahrain midfielder Mahroon unleashed a fiery shot that slipped off the gloves of Singapore goalie MZ Bin Rohaized, but defender R Aravin cleared the ball from the goal line.
