A three-day fair of jute products ended at Barisal Ashwini Kumar Hall on Saturday night. The fair was organised by Jute Diversification Promotion Center (JDPC) in collaboration of district administration with a vision of improving jute scenario, sustained development of jute economy and reviving the past glory of jute. Mozahidul Islam, monitoring and extension executive of JDPC, said the fair was successful in terms of creating interest among the mass people and doing good business of diversified jute products among the visiting consumers. JDPC organized the fair for improving jute scenario, sustained development of jute economy and reviving the past glory of jute as “Golden Fiber” through extension of uses and production of jute products and jute diversified products (JDPs) of high value addition, he added. To prevent decay of earth, damages of roads, river erosion, hill and mud slide, geo-textile products made from jute also created international recognitions and demands, Mozahidul Islam noticed. Private sector entrepreneurs could make substantial contribution in the economic development of the country through promotion and extension of jute diversified enterprises, Noor Aktar Banu Ritu, proprietor R and F Jute and Handicrafts at the fair opined. Jute plays a crucial role in promoting the culture of Bangladesh and the millions of people are involved in this trade. Improving socio-economic conditions of farmers and other sections of people involved directly or indirectly with the sector, needed urgently, Rebeka Sultana, one of the organisers of Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry Barisal unit.
