Titumir College student Siddiqur Rahman, who lost his eye-sight in “police action” during a demonstration in the city’s Shahbagh in July, was released from hospital on Sunday.
He was undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Ophthalmology (NIO) in the capital.
NIO Assistant Professor Zahidul Ahsan Menon said that Siddiqur was released from the hospital at about 12:30pm on Sunday.
Sheikh Farid, a classmate of Siddiqur, said that Siddiqur would stay with him (Farid) in a rented house at Khilkhet.
Siddiqur Rahman was flown to India for treatment on July 27 from the NIO and returned on August 11 after an eye surgery.
He is expected to join the Essential Drugs Company Limited (EDCL), a government’s pharmaceuticals company, as telephone operator on October 1, Farid said.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim handed the appointment letter to Siddiqur through a ceremony on September 13. The appointment is temporary.
Siddiqur, a third-year student of Political Science Department, was critically injured during a demonstration of the students of seven Dhaka University-affiliated colleges at Shahbagh on July 20. That was the beginning of his misfortunes.
The students of Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Mohila College, Mirpur Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College demonstrated at Shahbagh to press home their seven-point demand that included announcement of their examination dates.
