Two siblings drowned in a water body at Shahporir Dwip under Teknaf upazila here on Saturday morning.
The victims were identified as Mohi Uddin, 9, son of Monir Ullah of Dangor Para under Shahporir Dwip and a class three student of Dangor Para Govt Primary School, and his younger brother Irfan Uddin, 7.
Monir Ullah, along with his two sons, went to catch fish at a water body near the embankment of the Bay of Bengal on Saturday morning. From there the two brothers were returning home, but both fell in a water body and drowned at 9am. Later, locals recovered the bodies.
Assistant Teacher of the school Foyez Ullah said a pall of gloom descended upon the area and the school at the deaths.
