A police officer reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself in his residence under Kurigram Sadar upazila of the distric on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Selim Jahangir, 38, Sub-Inspector of Police and son of one Abul Kalam Azad of Phulbari upazila in Dinajpur district. He has wife and eight year a old son. He was posted at Sadar police camp of Kurigram district since four years.
Mahibul Islam Khan, Superintendent of Police of the district, confirmed the news that Jahangir shot himself on the head in front of his wife and parents at their Hatirpar rented residence around 3pm.
After the incident, he was taken to Kurigram General Hospital where doctors declared him dead, SP said.
Dr Shahinur Rahman at the hospital said Jahangir had died before he brought to the hospital. A bullet pierced through his right ear, he said.
Legal action will be taken after an investigation, the SP added.
