Staff Reporter :
Shujan (Shushasoner Jonno Nagorik) on Saturday demanded unconditional release of the students, who joined in quota reforms and road safety movements saying, the students demonstrated peacefully and they had no fault.
“The students demonstrated for their fundamental rights. The school students took to the street for safe road and justice, while the university students agitated for quota reformation. So, we don’t see any fault in their movement. The government should release them immediately,” it said.
The Shujan said this at a statement on Saturday with the sign of its President M Hafiz Uddin Khan and Secretary Badiul Alam Majumder.
“The students started their movement protesting the killing of their two fellows by the bus of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan in the capital Kurmitola on July 29. They brought discipline on the roads and informed us about the indiscipline transport system in the country,” it said.
Earlier, the students of public and private universities demanded the existing quota reformation in government jobs terming the present ratio illogical. They spread the movement all over the country.
“The leaders of these movements are being arrested and harassed. In the meantime, 99 students were arrested in 52 cases. The students and their guardians are passing their times in fear.
On the other hand, no action was taken against those culprits who attacked on students and assaulted the media men during the movement for safe road,” the statement said.
It added, “The Shujan believes that the movement of the students is logical. They are not guilty. It cannot be offense in a democratic state. The Constitution gives the citizen rights to free movement, gathering and freedom of speech. So, Sujon condemns strongly the arrest and harassment of the students.”
Shujan also urged the government to meet the logical demands of the students.
