Three mayoral candidates in the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) elections have been served with show-cause notices for violating the electoral code of conduct. The notices were issued on Monday.
The three candidates are ruling Awami League-backed candidate AJM Nasir Uddin, BNP-backed candidate M Manzoor Alam and Jatiya Party-backed candidate Solaiman Alam Shet.
The Retuning Officer served the notices on behalf of the Election Commission (EC). The EC also asked 17 other councillor candidates in CCC elections to
‘show-cause’ for violating the electoral code of conduct.
“The notices called upon the candidates to submit their written reply in appearance by April 5,” Md Abdul Baten, Returning Officer of the CCC, told the media.
Manzoor set camp office for the polls, Nasir pasted banner on roadsides and held meeting in community centre, and Solaiman delivered posters and set camp office violating electoral rules, said the Returning Officer.
