Shortage of rainfall adverse impact on agriculture

Inadequate rainfall may create negative impact on agriculture sector. Lack of water in ditches, canals and rivers could harm the farmers products. Besides, the farmers also could face difficulties to make seedbed of Aman paddies.
“We are in difficulties with our Jutes to rot it due to shortages of rainfall. It causes our water bodies less of water in our area. We are anxious to keep standard of our jute fibers,” said, Akkas Ali Mollah, a farmer from Dadpur village of Faridpur district.
When asked, Mohammad Bahauddin Sheikh, an Agriculture Extension Officer of Rajbari office, said, “There is bumper production of jutes in Faridpur and Rajbari districts in this year. But the shortage of rain caused a bad situation for the farmers to rot their jutes. If the rain shortages continue, the farmers might face more difficulties to rot the jute.”
He also said, lack of proper water to rot jute, harm the quality of it’s fiber. It might led the jute to produce low quality fibers. As a result the farmers might not attain proper price for their products.
“Without adequate rain the farmers might face problem to make seedbed of Aman rice. Some of the farmers use shallow machine to water the seedbed. But every one is not able to use it, because of it is costly,” he added.
On the other hand the fish farmers also facing bad time due to lack of adequate water.
In addition the people suffering from hot weather for the shortage of rains. Experts said, shortages of rainfall make the atmosphere hot. It also causes various unease situations for people across the country. The city dwellers are suffering from hot weather due to shortages of rainfalls.
“It is rainy season, we are used to see heavy rain full of the season. But now we see very little of rain. Some days we have seen totally rainless. The sky is seen cloudless. It is not natural. It made the weather serous hot. We are stay with our kids in painful situation. The kids suffer from humidity,” said, Ashraful Islam, a Bank official at Motijheel in the city.
Meteorologists said, the late setting of monsoon is causes shortages of rainfall in the season.
“Normally monsoon is set early in June, but this year it has seted just 17th June in the area. It caused the rainless days in the first portion of rainy season. The next days might the rainfall increased,” said, AKM Ruhul Quddus, Meteorologists of Bangladesh Meterological Department, Dhaka office.
While the environmentalists said, the climatechange might the cause of shortage of rainfall.
“When the climate became changed due to the anti environmental activities, the nature also act unnaturally. The current shortage of rainfall may be the result of such climate change matters,” said, Dr. M.A. Matin, the General Secretary of Bangladesh Paribesh Adolon (BAPA).
