Shops to remain shut after 8pm from Monday

The government has said that shops and markets across the country should remain closed from 8 pm onwards to reduce electricity and fuel consumption. However, the kitchen market can be kept open even after 8 pm.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by State Minister Begum Mannujan Sufian at the Ministry of Labour and Employment on Sunday (June 19).
After the meeting, the State Minister said that it was decided to implement the Prime Minister’s directive to close shops after 8 pm from Monday.
At that time, representatives of Ministry of Power, Industries, Dhaka City Corporation North / South, Employers Federation, FBCCI, MCCI, BGMEA, BKMEA, Bangladesh Shop Owners Association, Dhaka Chamber and various business owners’ organisations and workers’ organisations were present at the meeting.
On June 17, a notification was issued in this regard aiming to save power and energy against the backdrop of worldwide continued price-hike of power and energy.
Secretaries of ministries and divisions concerned such as public security division, commerce ministry, energy and mineral resources division, local government division, power division, industries ministry, department of inspection for factories and establishments, all the divisional commissioners, deputy inspector generals of police, deputy commissioners and superintendent of police of all divisions and districts have been asked to execute the order strictly in line with Section 114 of the Bangladesh Labour Law-2006.
