Shiv Chaturdarshi Fair begins

The annual Shiv Chaturdarshi Fair, one of the major religious festivals of the Hindu community, started at Chandranath Dham of Sitakunda on Monday.
It is taking place on top of the Chandranath hill.
The pilgrims would bathe the idol of Shiv with coconut water and milk at 7:12pm on Tuesday. Dol Purnima will be celebrated on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Like previous years, several hundred saints and worshipers from different countries have gathered at the fair.
A four-day conference of Hindu saints and scholars started on Sunday and will end on Wednesday with the fair.
Officer-in-Charge of Sitakunda Model Police Station Delwar Hossain said surveillance cameras have been installed and a three-tier security arrangement has been made to tackle any untoward situation.
Fire guts valuables of 3 houses, 6 shops: A fire gutted valuables of three houses and six shops in Chattogram city’s Railway Colony area on early Monday.
The fire originated from an electric short circuit in a house at the colony and it spread to the adjacent houses and shops around 3:00am, said Jasim Uddin, assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence, Chattogram.
On information, firefighters rushed to spot and managed to douse the blaze around 5:15am.
The loss caused by the fire was estimated at Tk 5 lakh, he said.
