Shishu Prohor at Book Fair today

Children can have their day out with Ekushey Book Fair celebrating Shishu Prohor (special time schedule for the children) again on Friday (9th day) from 11 am to 1 pm.
The book fair will remain open from 11 am as it is holiday tomorrow and close at 9 pm. A total of 791 books hit the book fair so far including eighth day’s 64 books. Bangla Academy earned a sales proceed of Tk. 21.30 in first one week.
Publishers from across the country are exhibiting a huge number of books on different issues while Bangla Academy is exhibiting 141 newly printed and reprinted books.
Earlier, 729 books hit the fair in the first week while number of books of short stories, novel, essay and poetry published in the first week are 87, 86, 37, and 149 respectively.
A children painting competition will be held as part of the Shishu Prohor celebration with artiste Nisar Hossain inaugurating the competition.
A discussion programme on Rashid Uddin, Ukil Munsi and Bari Siddiqi will be held with Suman Kumar Das presenting the keynote speech.
Kamal Uddin Kabir and Siaman Zakir will discuss while Nurul Haque will preside over.
Regular seminars are being arranged at the main stage of the fair at 4pm every day from February 2 to 28 followed by cultural events.
As in recent years, the venue of the fair has been extended to nearby Suhrawardy Udyan with some changes.
The authorities have allotted a total of 719 units – 136 at the Bangla Academy ground to 92 organizations and 583 at the Suhrawardy Udyan to 363 organizations.
There are strict security arrangements in and around the book fair venue to avert any unpleasant incident during the fair.
A newly launched website and apps provide the information about the fair.
Awards in different categories will be handed over to the publishing houses on the closing day of the book fair.
