Shirin new National Women’s Chess champion

WFM Sharmin Sultana Shirin became champion in the WALTON 37th National Women’s Chess Championship sponsored by WALTON Group and organised by Bangladesh Chess Federation on Monday at Bangladesh Chess Federation hall-room.
WFM Shirin earned 8 points out of 9 games to clinch the title. It is her third national women’s title, earlier she was woman champion in 2009 and 2012.
WIM Shamima Akter Liza became runner-up with 7.5 points. 9th or last round games were held on Monday.
In last round WFM Shirin beat Aahelee Sarker and WIM Liza drew with WFM Tanima Parveen of Chittagong. WIM Liza in 8th or penultimate round got a chance for title but she failed to beat her rival and drew with Tanima.
WFM Tanima Parveen of Chittagong became unbeaten 3rd and WIM Rani Hamid became 4th with 7 points each. WFM Zakia Sultana became 5th with 6.5 points. Nine playes are earned 6 points each.
In tie-breaking system their positions are: 6th- last year woman champion WFM Nazrana Khan Eva, 7th-Umme Taslima Protiva Talukder of Bogra, 8th-Jahanara Haque Runu, 9th-Aahelee Sarker, 10th-Mst. Jhorna Begum of Narayanganj, 11th-WFM Afroza Khanal Bably, 12th-Noshin Anjum of Norsingdi, 13th-Jannatul Ferdous and 14th-Tanzina Akter Tani.
The prize-distribution was held on Monday after games. Mr. F. M. Iqbal Bin Anwar (Dawn) Operative Director and Head of Sports & Welfare of WALTON Group distributed prizes among winners as chief guest.
The event was held in 9 round Swiss-League system. Total 67 players from Dhaka city and 22 districts participated. One lac taka cash prize money and WALTON home Appliances given to the winners.
