The body of slain actor and model Raima Islam Shimu was buried at Azimpur Graveyard in Dhaka on Tuesday night.
She was buried at about 9:00pm after her namaj-e-janaza at Green Road Staff Quarter Mosque at about 8:30pm, said Shimu’s brother Shahidul Islam Khokon.
Shimu used to live with her husband and two children at a house at Green Road area in the capital. Her dismembered body was found near the roadside at Aliapur adjacent to Hazratpur Bridge at Keraniganj in Dhaka on Monday.
After initiating an investigation into the
murder, police found two pieces of rope on the sack used for wrapping Shimu’s body and kept the name of Shimu’s husband Nobel in the list of suspects. Nobel was arrested after the same type of rope was found at Nobel’s house. Later, Nobel “confessed” the killing of Shimu, said police.
Police also said after the killing of wife over conjugal feud, Sohel, in cooperation with his friend SMY Abdullah Farhad, tried to hide Shimu’s body.
Following the arrest of Nobel and Farhad, a court in Dhaka placed them on a three-day remand for questioning.
After the postmortem of Shimu’s body at Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital (Mitford) on Tuesday afternoon, Dr Sohel Mahmud said there was a ‘clearly visible black mark’ on the neck of the body. It was anticipated that she was strangled by something like nylon rope. Besides, viscera were collected for chemical examination.
