Noakhali Correspondent :
An activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir was killed and another one was injured in a clash between the activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir and police at Maijdee Court under Noakhali Sadar upazila on Monday morning.
The clash took place after the Supreme Court rejected the review petition filed against the death penalty awarded to Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General and convicted war criminal Mohammad Kamaruzzaman.
The deceased has been identified as Omar Farooq, 22, son of Nurul Alam from Sadar upazila and a first year student of Noakhali Government College, our local correspondent reports. Injured Rakib, 20, is the son of one Abu Taher from the locality.
Sudharampur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anwar Hossain said that Shibir activists brought out a procession at 11.30 am near the Maijdee Court after the Supreme Court’s judgment on the review petition.
“Police intercepted the procession to disperse. At this, the Shibir men opened gunfire on the law enforcers, triggering the clash. After the clash subsided, three were arrested.” the police official said.
On-duty doctor at Noakhali’s Abdul Malek Ukil Medical College and Hospital declared Farooq dead after arrival, the OC said.
The body had been sent to the Noakhali Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, the police official said.
A case was filed in this connection, he added.
