A leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami, was killed in a `gunfight` with police in Boldipukur area of Mithapukur upazila in Rangpur district early Monday.
The victim was identified as Nazmul Huda Lablu, 28, son of Nurunnabi Shah of Mirzapur village under the upazila.
He was former president of Chhatra Shibir of Mithapukur unit and also
the incumbent president of Jamaat-e-Islami-backed Sramik Kalyan Federation of Mithapukur upazila unit.
Police said he was the prime suspect in the bus arson case at Mithapukur on January 13 in which eight people were killed.
“A group of Jamaat-Shibir activists were locked into clash with police when they tried to enforce blockade on road felling trees at Boldipukur near RI fish farm on Rangpur- Dhaka highway around 3:30am,” Officer-in-Charge of Mithapukur police station, Humayun Kabir, said.
