Shibir activists attack BCL men

Chhatra Shibir activists attacked BCL men while they were holding a rally after paying homage at the Shaheed Minar on the Chittagong College campus marking Victory Day on Wednesday.
Aziz Ahmed, Officer in-Charge of Chawk Bazar thana said after being chased by Shibir activists, BCL men took position in front of Mohsin College, opposite to Chittagong College.
Nurul Azim Rony, General Secretary of Chittagong city unit of BCL, said the unruly ICS activists at the Chittagong College have attacked activists of the BCL when Chittagong college unit of BCL went to Shaheed Minar on the campus to place wreaths to martyrs of Liberation War at 11 am on Wednesday.
Witnesses said Shibir activists hurled two crude bombs on the BCL rally and a fracas broke out. Shibir leaders-activists from Mohsin College hurled stones at BCL men. On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, he added.
Meanwhile, police detained at least 66 alleged Chhatra Shibir men from the spot. A huge number of police personnel were deployed as soon as the clash was reported.
Balloon-gas cylinder blast kills one , 3 hurt
A man was killed and three children were injured in an explosion of a balloon-gas cylinder at a Victory Day fair in Gomondi sadar area under Boalkhali Upazila of the district on Wednesday afternoon
The victims was identified as Jakir Hossain,40, son of Amir Hamza hailed from Shariatpur district. Habibur Rahman, additional superintendent of police (South) Islam confirmed the matter to media. He said a balloon seller pumping gas into the balloons and suddenly the cylinder exploded, leaving him dead on the spot and three others injured. The injured were Sunny, 8, Sakim, 7 and Noimuddin, 9.
