Shibir activist gets 10-yr jail for cyber crimes

A trial court here on Monday convicted a person and sentenced him to ten years behind the bar on charge of his involvement in cyber crimes in the district around five years back.
The court also fined the convict, Abdul Mukit alias Raju, son of Riazul Islam of Haripur village under Paba Upazila, Taka ten lakh, in default, to suffer one year more in jail. Mukit was the president of Haripur Union unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Rajshahi Divisional Cyber Tribunal Judge Ziaur Rahman found the accused guilty of the charge and handed down the verdict in presence of the convict.
Public Prosecutor of the tribunal Ismat Ara told the journalists that Saidur Rahman, Haripur Union President of Bangladesh Awami League, had lodged a case with Paba Police Station against Mukit related to his involvement in cyber crimes on May 27, 2017.
Upon completion of investigation police pressed charges against him.
After examining recorded depositions of the enlisted prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidence the tribunal pronounced the verdict.
