Sher-e-Bangla’s death anniv observed

The 52nd death anniversary of Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque was observed with due respect in the capital and elsewhere across the country on Sunday.
Different socio-political organisations, including Awami League, BNP and the Dhaka University, separately observed the day through elaborate programmes.
The programmes include: placing of wreaths and offering fateha at the grave of the great leader, milad mahfil and discussion meetings.
AK Fazlul Haque died on April 27 in 1962.
AK Fazlul Haque held different political posts, including those of the mayor of Kolkata (1935), chief minister of undivided Bengal (1937-1943) and of East Pakistan (1954), home minister of Pakistan (1955) and governor of East Pakistan (1956- 58).
Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia have issued separate messages on the occasion.
The President, in his message, said the nation will remember with great gratitude the contributions of Sher-e-Bangla to the socio-economic development of the farmers and the working class people.
In her message, the Prime Minister said Sher-e-Bangla had struggled throughout his life for the economic emancipation of the country’s farmers.
Khaleda Zia, in her message, said AK Fazlul Haque was vocal till the last day of his life to realise the rights of country’s people. He’ll ever be remembered in the history for his strong role in the anti-British Movement, she said.
