Sheikh Russell’s 55th birthday observed

The 55th birthday of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed on Thursday in a befitting manner across the country.
The birthday programmes included cake cutting, discussions, milad and doa mahfils, cultural functions, rallies, painting competitions and distribution of foods among the destitute people.
Russell, the youngest brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born on this day (October 18) in 1964 at “Bangabandhu Bhaban”, the historical residence of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, located at Road 32, Dhanmondi in the capital.
He was a class-four student of University Laboratory School when he along with his most family members, including Bangabandhu, was killed by a group of disgruntled army men on August 15, 1975.
Marking the birthday, leaders of Awami League (AL) placed wreaths at the graves of those massacred on August 15, 1975, including Sheikh Russell at Banani graveyard around 8 am.
AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader, AL Presidium Member Advocate Abdul Matin Khushru, Organizing Secretary AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, Office Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, Agriculture and Cooperatives Faridun Nahar Laili, Education and Human Resource Secretary Shamsun nahar Chapa, among others, were present there.
Later, a milad and doa mahfil were held at Banani graveyard mosque for the martyrs of August 15. Leaders of AL and its associate bodies joined the doa mahfil.
The University Laboratory Ex-Students Association (ULESA) observed Sheikh Russell’s 55th birth anniversary on Thursday.
The members of the organization placed wreath at the grave of Russell in the Banani graveyard and vowed to build a ‘Children habitable caring Bangladesh’.
Former and present teachers and students, specially students of Class 1V, were present to offer Fateha for the salvation of the souls of Russell ad his family members who were martyred.
Acting Principal of the school and college Selina Banu, Vice-Principal Salina Akhter, ULESA President Nayeem Ahmed Khan and General Secretary Anisur Rahman Sarker Litu, Naser Iqbal Jadu, Hafizul Haq Rubel, Aziz Md. Gani Ul Alam, Masud Rana and Azmal Hossain among others, were present on the occasion.
Besides, teachers A.B.M.Forhad, Fatema Ferdozus, Saiful Islam Akon, Zahidul Hasan Bhuiwan, Sabina Islam and Romela Afroze Khan attended
