Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra won the Bangabandhu Cup 2017 in Magura with a 5-4 goals in a tie-breaker as the final match rolled into penalties after a goalless draw after an hour and a half at Muktijoddha Asaduzzaman Stadium in Magura on Sunday..
The tournament had 16 teams taking part including some of the Dhaka’s Premier clubs like Abahani, Mohammedan, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra and the Bangladesh Navy.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikdar witnessed te final as chief guest and handed the trophy and medals among the winners at the closing ceremony.
Attending as special guest, former national captain Kazi Salahuddin said, “All the teams competed against each other quite well.”
Bangladesh Football Federation President, Salahuddin was also present as special guest . in his speech he said, “It was a full house here. The atmosphere was wonderful with so many enthusiastic followers of the game.”
The teams were split into four groups with four teams each where they played a round robin league format and advanced to the quarters and semis.
