Sheikh Russel Krira Chakara will take on Uttar Baridhara Club in the opening match of the Independence Cup Football at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Sepoy Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in the city’s Kamalapur today. The match will start at 3.30pm.
In the day’s other match, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited will face Bangladesh Air Force at the same venue at 6.00pm.
A total of 15 teams splitting into four groups will take part in the Independence Cup Football, the curtain raiser football competition of this season.
Dhaka Abahani Limited, Rahmatganj MFS, Swadhinata Krira Sangha are in Group-A, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra, Uttar Baridhara Club, Bangladesh Air Force are in Group-B, Saif Sporting Club, Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra, Bangladesh Navy are in Group-C, Bashundhara Kings, Chittagong Abahani Limited, Bangladesh Police Football Club, Bangladesh Navy are in Group-D.
Top two teams from each group will get tickets of the quarter-finals. The winners of the quarter-finals will play in the semi-finals. The winners of the semi-finals will face each other in the final. The winning team of the final will be the champions of the football competition. The final will be held on December 18.
