Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited became runners-up in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football after beating Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited by two goals to nil in their last second leg match of the BPL Football at the Bangladesh Army Stadium in the city’s Banani on Friday.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited collected 52 points from 24 matches, while Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited earned 43 points from as many outings.
Holders Bashundhara Kings retained their BPL Football title grabbing 58 points from 21 matches. The first half ended in a goalless draw.
Sheikh Jamal’s Gambian recruit Solomon King put his team ahead by a header in the 52nd minute of the match.
Solomon King made it 2-0 by a power-packed shot after dodging past two Mohammedan defenders in the 88th minute of the game.
Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club got chance in the 67th minute of the clash. Shahed Mia’s forceful angular shot was gripped by Sheikh Jamal goalie Masum.
Dhaka Mohammedan got another chance in the 76th minute but Shahed Mia’s volley was saved by Sheikh Jamal custodian Masum.
In the day’s other match at the same venue, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra defeated Bangladesh Police Football Club by a solitary goal.
Md Khalequzzaman of Sheikh Russel scored the all-important goal in the 72nd minute of the match.
Meanwhile, Rahmatganj MFS blanked Arambagh Krira Sangha by three goals to nil at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on the same day.
Nigerian Felix of Rahmatganj MFS put his team ahead by a penalty kick in the 15th minute of the game.
Shahedul Hasan of Rahmatganj made it 2-0 in the 29th minute of the clash.
Felix sealed the fate of the match (3-0) in the 73rd minute of the game.
