Sheikh Jamal emerge group C champions

Powerhouse Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club emerged group C champions of the Modhumoti Bank Independence Cup Football beating Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra by 3-1 goals held on Thursday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city.
Jamal piled up pressure from the very beginning and in the 13th and 14th minute Haitian forward Wedson Anselme and his compatriot Sony Norde shot wide off the side post from advantageous positions.
Muktijoddha hit back in the 20th minute with Eleta Kingsley carrying a long ball went into the Jamal defence but shot straight to Jamal goalie Ziaur Rahman.
After the barren first half, Sony Norde put Sheikh Jamal ahead in the 51st minute with a cool finish. Playing one-two with Mamunul Islam who provided the final pass, the Haitian forward slotted the ball into the near post (1-0).
However Muktijoddha’s Nigerian forward Sunday Chizoba scored the restored the parity in the 64th minute. Taking control of a Maruf Ahmed lob at the middle of the box Sunday turned around and sent a placing shot into the post (1-1).
Sony Norde scored his second of the match heading a Linkon cross into the middle of the net in the 86th minute (2-1).
Sohel Rana completed the tally in the injury time of the second half with a brilliant solo effort. Taking control of a Wedson long ball he went past one defender and placed the ball into the far post (3-1).
Jamal earned six points while Mukijoddha earned three points from their two group matches.
