Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club earned their 2nd consecutive victory in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League beating Abahani Limited by four wickets in the last-ball thriller at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday.
In the day’s other matches, defending champions Prime Bank Cricket Club returned to the winning form defeating all losers Cricket Coaching School by runs at BKSP ground -3 in Savar while Prime Doleshwar SC maintained all-win run beating Kalabagan Krira Chakra by four runs in Fatullah.
Mahbubul Karim of Sheikh Jamal while Saif Hassan and Salman Hossain of Cricket Coaching School scored centuries on the opening day of the 2nd round on Tuesday.
In Mirpur, Abahani Limited opened the innings first after winning the toss and scored a challenging 287 for 4 in stipulated 50 overs featuring 80 runs in the 3rd wicket stand by Tamim Iqbal and Uday Kaur.
National opener cum Abahani captain Tamim Iqbal contributed a polished 90 runs off 91 balls with 11 fours, Indian cricketer Uday Kaur scored 63 runs off 78 balls hitting five fours and one six, Nazmul Hossain Shanta made 50-ball 52 runs with five fours while Mosaddek Hossain scored 29-ball 46 runs, including three fours and two sixes.
Moniruzzaman, Shohag Gazi, Mahmudullah and Muktar Ali claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Sheikh Jamal DC scored the match-winning 289 runs for the loss of six wickets in the last-ball thriller. Lower order Muktar Ali guided the team towards victory hitting a six in the last ball of the match bowled by Taskin Ahmed.
Sheikh Jamal opener Mahbubul Karim hammered a century scoring 110-ball 130 runs featuring 15 fours and five sixes and was adjudged the match of the match.
Besides, Marshall Ayub (47), Nazmus Sadat (33) and skipper Mahmudullah (27) were other notable contributors for Sheikh Jamal DC.
Nazmul Hossain Shanta and Saqlain Sajib grabbed two wickets each conceding 39 and 51 runs respectively.
At BKSP in Savar, Prime Bank CC, favoured by coin, batted first and were all out for 257 in 48.3 overs with Taibur Rahman making 72-ball 76 runs, including four fours and a six.
Besides, Yasir Ali (53), Shahnaz Ahmed (36) and Mehedy Maruf (19) were major contributors for Prime Bank CC.
Chasing a target of 258 runs, Cricket Coaching School (CCS) fought hard for their existence and were forced to fold their innings at 252 runs for 7 in 50 overs, despite two centuries by Saif Hasan and Salman Hossain.
Two down Salman Hossain of CCS contributed 110 runs off 137 balls hitting eight fours and three sixes and was adjudged man of the match while one down Saif Hasan made just 100 runs off 129 balls with seven fours and three sixes.
Rubel Hossain grabbed three wickets for 48 runs while Shuvagoto Hom and Monir Hossain took two wickets each giving away 36 and 49 runs.
In Fatullah, Prime Doleshwar SC batted first and piled up 287 for 8 in 50 overs
With national all rounder Nasir Hossain hammering 97 runs off 75 balls hitting eleven fours and one six to be adjudged man of the match.
Besides, opener Imtiaz Hossain (73), captain Farhad Reza (47) and Raquibul Hasan (34) were the other main scorers for Prime Doleshwar.
National ODI and T20 captain Mashrafe grabbed three wickets for 50 runs while veteran spinner Abdur Razzak and Dewan Sabbir took two wickets each conceding 32 and 63 runs respectively.
In reply, Kalabagan KC folded their innings at 283 runs for 9 in 50 overs featuring Mehrab Hossain Junior’s 86 runs off 87 balls with nine fours and one six.
Besides, Tasamul Haque (44), Jashimuddin (45) and Tanveer Haider (44) were the other main scorers for Kalabagan KC.
Rahatul Ferdous took thee wickets for 40 runs.
