Sheikh Hasina’s Homecoming Day celebrated

Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and its associate organisations celebrated the 42nd Homecoming Day of its President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on May 17. Marking the day, various social,
cultural and political organisations, including the Awami League, arranged different programmes. Special doa and prayers offered at the different mosques, temples, churches and pagodas in the city and district.
Chattogram city, north and south district units of AL observed the day through elaborate programmes including, placing wreaths at Bangabandhu’s portrait at the party office in the morning and holding discussions, milad and doa mahfil.
Chattogram city unit of AL held a discussion in city’s Anderkilla crossing around 3:00pm with its acting Chattogram city AL president Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury in the chair.
City AL General Secretary and former city Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, Khurshed Alam Sujan, Altaf Hossain Baccu and Advocate Iftakher Saimul Chowdhury, among others, spoke on the occasion.
The speakers said the very existence of AL survived after Sheikh Hasina’s return to her beloved motherland Bangladesh on May 17, 1981. The nation fought the autocratic ruler under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina who is still continuing her struggle to save the country’s democracy, they added.
Meanwhile, Chattogram south and north district AL also organised same programme at their respective offices at Anderkilla and Dost Building offices in the morning.
Different units of Bangladesh Chhatra League, Awami Juba League and other associate bodies of AL brought out several processions in different areas of the city.
