Shashi Tharoor meets Speaker

Chairman of Indian parliamentary standing committee on Indian external affairs ministry and former junior minister for foreign affairs in the past Congress government, Dr Shashi Tharoor on Friday called on Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Choudhury at her office at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
A parliamentary secretariat press release said they discussed issues of parliamentary democracy alongside bilateral relations and development of the two neighbours while Tharoor congratulated the speaker on her recent election as the chairperson of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA).
“There is no alternative to coordinated efforts for the economic development of South Asian countries,” the press release quoted him as saying.
Tharoor himself in his twitter account posted two photographs of his meeting with the speaker saying, “In the magnificent office of Bangladesh Parliament Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and in the well-appointed House (Bangladesh parliament)”.
Tharoor is now in Dhaka to join the Hay Festival while earlier he also called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and held a meeting with foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali on bilateral and other related issues.
