AP, New Delhi :Board of Control for Cricket in India President Shashank Manohar will replace Narainaswamy Srinivasan as the chairman of the International Cricket Council.”The BCCI representative to the ICC will be Mr. Shashank Manohar,” BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur said Monday in Mumbai. “Since the BCCI makes the nomination, he will take over as the ICC chief.”Manohar will complete the current BCCI tenure at the helm of the ICC, which continues through June 2016.Former ICC President Sharad Pawar will be an additional director who will attend meetings in case Manohar is not available. The move is seen as a part of the BCCI’s efforts to improve its image after a corruption scandal during the 2013 Indian Premier League in which Srinivasan’s son-in-law, Gurunath Meiyappan, was found guilty of spot fixing-related charges by a Supreme Court-appointed committee.Srinivasan, a former BCCI president, was said to have shielded Meiyappan, who was an official of the Chennai Super Kings.Meiyappan, who was held for two weeks by Mumbai Police, had been initially cleared by the BCCI’s own committee with Srinivasan at the helm. The move came in for criticism and the Cricket Association of Bihar filed a court case which led to Srinivasan being asked to step aside.Meiyappan and Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kunda were banned for life by the Supreme Court-appointed Justice Lodha committee for allegedly making contact with bookies and passing team information to them. The committee also suspended the Chennai and Rajasthan franchises for two years each. The BCCI is in the process of finalizing two teams to replace the suspended ones in the interim. The 70-year-old Srinivasan remains president of the provincial Tamil Nadu Cricket Association. The BCCI also made other announcements to clean up its image, including appointing Justice A.P. Shah as ombudsman to decide on conflict of interest cases within 30 days.”I’d promised to bring in such a system when I took over as BCCI president,” Manohar said. “We will clean up the system and run the board in a most transparent fashion.”Manohar returned as the BCCI president as a replacement for Jagmohan Dalmiya, who died in September.
