A Dhaka court on Friday placed BNP vice chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury on a five-day remand in a case filed for assaulting Awami League MP Chhabi Biswas in the city on December 24. Metropolitan Magistrate Emdadaul Haque passed the order when officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Shahbagh Police Station Habil Hossain produced him before the court after showing the BNP leader arrested in the case. Police sought a 10-day remand for Shamsher Mobin while his counsels Sanaullah Miah and Taherul Islam Touhid prayed for bail. After hearing, the court rejected the bail petition and granted a five-day remand. Earlier on Thursday night, plain-clothes police arrested the BNP vice chairman from his Banani DOHS house. A team of Detective Brach of Dhaka Metropolitan Police picked the BNP leader from his house around 11:25pm. Miscreants attacked Chhabi Biswas, the lawmaker from Netrakona-1 constituency, and set fire to his microbus in front of the Emergency unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on January 24. – UNB, Dhaka.
