Commentary: Shame for Egypt to broker ceasefire, instead of joining the fight

Israel has agreed to an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire in the week-long conflict between Israel and Hamas. The plan put forward by Cairo starts with a “de-escalation” that was due to begin at 6am on Tuesday and raises hopes of serious international engagement in the crisis amid growing concern about bloodshed in Gaza.
The question is at whose behest such ceasefire was brokered by Egypt? Those who are responsible for callous massacre of Palestinian men, women and children merely as a show of power must not go uncondemned and unresisted.
On Monday night in Washington Barack Obama welcomed the Egyptian initiative and described the deaths of Palestinian civilians as a “tragedy” while reiterating Israel’s right to defend itself against Hamas rocket attacks.
After blind American support for Israel, the Muslims anywhere do not need American’s sympathy. The human crisis calls for different response from Egypt and Muslim countries. It is the height of arrogance of American backed power Israel to ask Palestinian civilian to leave their country for shelter in other countries.
President Obama has proved helpless against Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel. The Muslims must look away from America for peaceful settlement of the Palestinian statehood. The Muslims have suffered enough loss of lives and terrible humiliation at the hands of Israeli governments. Now the Muslims must seek help from Russia and China.
Hamas – whose leaders are likely to be safe in underground bunkers, unlike the hapless civilians, who have nowhere to hide – has said its terms for a ceasefire would include Israel lifting its eight-year blockade on the Gaza Strip, opening the Rafah border crossing with Egypt, and releasing Palestinian prisoners Israel rearrested after freeing them in exchange for the kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in 2011.
We do not support the reckless adventurism of Hamas. But any reasonable person will have to accept that Hamas and other Muslim extremist groups would have been nowhere if the Israel had not used American arsenal for punishing Muslims most indiscriminately and accepted internationally brokered solution for Palestinian statehood. It is Israeli government’s state terrorism that has forced some Muslims to resort to extremism of very little consequence. The rocket used by Hamas are jokes, they are toys not able to cause any damage worth mentioning.
We shall insist Egypt’s military government not to behave like shameful stooge of Israel. The Prime Minister Netanyahu is a mad Hitler whose thirst for Muslim blood has no end. He wants war and Muslims should be ready to face it by military means and with courage.
