Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan joins Legends of Rupganj for the remaining part of Dhaka Premier League (DPL), in order to prepare for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka.
Shakib initially signed for traditional Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club but the club failed progress into the Super League phase of the tournament. According to the by-laws of DPL, if a player does not play for their side whose campaign had ended, then, that player can request for a transfer to another club that is still active in the competition.
Shakib will be joined by former captain Mashrafe Mortaza, Shabbir Rahman, Al-Amin, and others in the Rupganj camp.
Rupganj Legends chairman Lutfur Rahman Badal confirmed the development on Tuesday that also ends up speculation regarding his availability in the two-match Test series against Lankans, scheduled from May 15.
“He will be available from our next game. It is not due to our league standing (that I am picking him) but the relationship I have with him and he wanted to play (to get some match practice) as he has some (international) matches lined up,” Badal said.
Shakib has not played any competitive cricket since the ODI series against South Africa and was forced to return home early because of a family emergency. The preparation camp for the home series will start on May 8.
Meanwhile, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehedy Hasan joined Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the Super League.
Earlier, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehedi Hasan Miraz were also roped by Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club as they were released by Mohammedan Sporting Club after they couldn’t feature in the group phase due to international commitments.
