Court Correspondent :
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) for further investigation into the case filed against former lawmaker MA Awal and 14 others on the charges of killing trader Md Shahinuddin in May last year.
Magistrate Md Nurul Huda Chowdhurty of the CMM Court passed the order after mother of the victim, Aklima Begum, filed a no-confidence petition on Thursday. The court directed the PBI to submit the probe report of the case by June 19.
The murder was committed in front of the victim’s seven-year-old son in broad daylight in the city’s Pallabi area on May 16, last year.
In her application, Aklima claimed that the Investigation Officer of the case did not investigate properly. He dropped FIR-named accused and the names of several others, who gave confessional statements in different courts. So, the probe is incomplete, the complainant added.
After a probe for about nine months, Syed Iftekhar Hossain, Investigation Officer and an Inspector of the Detective Branch of police, submitted a charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on February 14, stating that the trader was killed under Awal’s direction.
Besides the former Laxmipur-1 MP, and 14 others were involved in the killing, the probe report said.
The IO had dropped names of 13 accused from the charges, saying that their involvement was not found during the investigation.
