Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka yesterday rejected the bail petition lodged on behalf of photographer Dr Shahidul Alam in a case filed under Section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.
Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayes passed the order on Tuesday noon.
Earlier on Monday, the High Court directed the subordinate court to dispose of it by Tuesday. Police arrested him on the charge of “Spreading propaganda and false information against the government”.
The bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman passed the order after hearing on Shahidul Alam’s petition that sought bail in the case. Sara Hossain and Syeda Rizwana Hasan appeared on behalf of photographer Shahidul Alam.
Shahid, 63, is now in Dhaka Central Jail in a case filed under Section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.
Police charged him with “spreading propaganda and false information against the government”. Some plainclothes men picked up the photographer from his house in the capital’s Dhanmondi area on August 5.
