Shaheed Dr Milon Day was observed in the country on Wednesday commemorating the 29th anniversary of his martyrdom. Dr Shamsul Alam Khan Milon, the then Joint Secretary General of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) and also a teacher of Dhaka Medical College (DMC), was killed on this day in 1990 by the goons of the military junta near the Teacher-Students’ Center (TSC) of Dhaka University at the height of anti-autocracy movement.
To mark the day, different political, social and cultural organizations placed floral wreaths on the grave of Milon on Dhaka Medical College premises in the morning. The programme also included discussion and offering Fateha and special munajat.
On behalf of the Awami League (AL), floral tribute was paid at the grave. AL Joint General Secretary and Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Awami League Presidium Member Begum Matia Chowdhury, Office Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, Organizing Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim and Enamul Haque Shamim, Cultural Affairs Secretary Ashim Kumar Ukil, Relief and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary Sujit Rai Nandi, Agriculture Affairs Secretary Faridun Nahar Laily, Health Affairs Secretary Dr Rokeya Sultana and Central Committee Member Riazul Kabir Kawsar, among others, were present. Besides, Shaheed Milon’s family, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), Samyabadi Dal, Muktijoddha Manch, Bam Ganatantrik Jote, Communist Party of Bangladesh, Awami Jubo League, Bangladesh Chattra League, Swadhinata Chikitshak Parishad, Bangladesh Medical Association and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University paid tributes to Shaheed Milon.
