Court Correspondent :The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday sent cricketer Shahadat Hossain to jail after he surrendered to the court, a day after police arrested his wife Jemin Jahan Nitto from her father’s house in Malibagh area of the city. Magistrate Yousuf Hossain rejected Shahadat’s bail petition and passed order to send him to the jail.The couple is accused of torturing their minor domestic help. They had been absconding since a case was registered against them last month under theWomen and Children Repression Prevention Act.On Sunday morning, police arrested Jesmin Jahan and was produced to court in the afternoon with a five-day remand prayer to grill her in custody. However, the court allowed police three days to grill her at the jail gate. She was sent to the jail.On September 6, Shahadat lodged a complaint with the local police station claiming his domestic help had gone missing. But later, the 11-year-old child accused the cricketer and his wife of regular torture.Journalist Khandkar Mozzamel Haque found the child at Mirpur area and took her to the local police station. Later, he filed the case against the couple.Shahadat last played for Bangladesh in May against Pakistan. He went off the field on the first day of first Test with a leg injury. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) got him treated in Australia and later he was doing a rehabilitation course. The BCB said that the reports of torturing a child was ‘utterly embarrassing’ and banned the pacer from all forms of cricket until the charges were disposed of.
